This bijoux powder room formed part of a much larger project called Modern Farm House and sits discreetly off to one side in the triple volume entrance hall. This client (much like the designer) was a BIG fan of gold interiors and power rooms are often used as an opportunity to ‘accentuate’ decorations because your stay there is usually short and you don’t actually live in the space. The style was definitely inspired by a fabulous Kelly Wearstler wall paper called Crescent (gold on Ebony) which evoked a glamorous 1930’s feel. Often designers have a stash of favourite finishes they hope they will one day be able to introduce into a scheme and this was one of those moments. This then had to marry up with further finishes such as the floor and the vanity top and René settled on the Porturo Nero stone and the THG Paris gold hand basin and taps. The vanity unit was designed as a clever illusion of smaller drawers that are in fact doors where the owner can store spare toilet paper, soaps and cleaning products. All the doors in the house are the same colour blue but we simply had to make the inside of this one gold to match the rest of the scheme. The room was completed by adding some stunning Kelly Wearstler Deco wall lights and a fabulous shagreen mirror from Kifu Paris.
