This whole house project, deep in the Cotswolds, was a unique experience for the team at René Dekker Design. The client loved crazy design and colour and looked to have a different experience in every room and the dining room design was no exception. The design direction for this Georgian style new build took it’s cue from historical Georgian houses in the area, most notable Aynho House with its abundance of classical panelling. Once the proportions had been agreed (and these same proportions were used in the Study on the other side of the double volume entrance hall), the design team had to come up with a more contemporary way of finishing the timber. The scheme opted for a pressed paper wall covering from Arte wall coverings for the inside of the panels and a dead matt finish on the timber. We re-introduced the silver grey basket weave oak parquet that was used in the reception room design. Further architectural details such as the deep bespoke skirtings and over scaled doors and architraves that are seen in the rest of the house, were again used in this space. Finally a specially made Porturo Nero polished marble fire surround was added.
Gold was introduced in a big way in the room in the form of furniture and lighting and this was complemented by the iron stone window frames that have been used throughout the building design. We added just one accent colour to the scheme in the form of purple that was used to full potential in the velvet fabric on the bespoke dining chairs. We further added two matching gold server units under the windows, a modern gold pendant and a bespoke dining table in ebonised walnut with gold inlay.
