As one of London’s top interior design studios, we are privileged to have worked on some very exciting projects in the capital’s golden post codes and this project ranks up there with the best! The lower ground floor of this Kensington Grande Dame, forms part of a full house renovation which encompasses the full refurbishment of a very tired 16 000 square foot home. Rene Dekker Design is working very closely with the architects and the clients to achieve a dream home for this growing family. The works will include a partial strip out of finishes and services, all new electrics and plumbing, cooling and heating, and a full decoration scheme.
With an ever extending family, the lower ground floor of the house was designated for family/party space design in the front of house. The suite would include two guest powder rooms, a bar, wine room design, cinema space and games area. Our initial idea focused on creating the feeling of a private members club. We wanted to use luxurious finishes with a twist so for example we designed a large scale herring bone parquet floor in black American walnut but added some random gold planks in the mix. We also used a blend of loose furniture with fitted banquettes to give it more of that ‘club’ look. The client was very keen to use a stunning under lit green onyx bar counter somewhere in the house so we settled on using it as a bar counter and vanity tops on this floor which in turn lead to the colour palette which then leant itself to the Art Deco theme. Areas were well defined making space for a wine display, separate bar, casual seating and table tennis and pool. Finishes choices include wall covering in dark cork with silver gilt, gold mesh for joinery inserts, green under-lit onyx and liquid bronze for some of the wine units. The guest WC’s mimic each other with the same finishes but where one is hung in emerald green metro tiles, the other will be in red metro tiles. Fabrics will include rich velvets, cognac suede and leather and hit of red!
