This entrance hall design was part of a much larger house project, situated in a leafy suburb of southwest London. The house is contemporary in design but we wanted to draw in classical influences for the embellishments and lighting. The team at a top London design studio, used gold and white, throughout the house but nowhere more so than in this entrance hall. We looked at standard building elements such as doors and windows to see how we could re-imagine them using these traditional finishes. We exposed the ceiling beams and patinated them with a pitted gold finish which we also used on the window frame design. We created a niche to the left of the gold front door where we would later build in a modern take on a deep buttoned sofa upholstered in a luxurious green velvet. The architects had designed a glass bridge across the entrance hall that led to the guest wing and in this double volume space we wanted guests to be greeted by two spectacular chandeliers. Again, playing on the classical influence, we sourced the Melt-Mee chandeliers from Andromeda, a light-hearted take on the traditional Murano chandelier with a serious twist! Other interesting touches included the over-scaled ceiling roses and the gold mosaic fish pond with water features. The final installation included bespoke glass vases that looked like splashing water drops for the orchids.
