When a home is as large as our London House project, our studio had the opportunity to use many different finishes, some really special, that had been waiting in the wings for just such a project. The architects had created serpentine shaped wardrobes in the master bedroom scheme, and it was difficult to come up with a soft finish that would work on the curved planes. We had always envisioned using the sculpted leather panels somewhere in the house but weren’t sure this would work. Thankfully when you have a great team of specialists and manufacturers all working towards the same goal, anything is possible. It was important to get not only the sculpting but an array of different stitch types as well so we started with simple elevations of the doors and pencilled in a rough vision of what we were after. This included stylised flowers as well as branches and leaves. This was sent to the manufacturers in Italy to complete and tweak to ensure they were able to carry this out. We then chose the pearlised leather that matched perfectly the other off white finishes in the room and these were duly shipped to the manufacturer. In the meantime, the joiner manufactured the base panels onto which the leather would be upholstered and these were also shipped. Once completed, they were sent back to the joiners who installed them
