Belsize Park Reception

Nestled quietly on a leafy street in the hilly suburb of Belsize Park, this Edwardian home is being given a full refurbishment for its new owners by London’s top interior designer René Dekker.  Works include but are not limited to all new electrical and lighting installation, new hot and cold water supply including a pressurised water tank, underfloor heating, air heating as well as new bathroom brass and sanitary ware, new engineered timber floor and specialist decorations.  Outside the house is being cleaned and decorated and at the rear an entirely new terrace and garden are being created.

This light filled reception room, forms part of this much larger scheme, and it is the clients wish to have a bright and light space with ‘pops’ of colour and pattern, combined with sophisticated yet comfortable and durable furniture.  The process started by re-planning the room which had an odd angled wall and off set single door.  We removed the angled wall and enlarged the reception room design by about one third and then placed a double sliding door at its entrance.  This gave the room better proportions and created some symmetry around the fire place.  Next we removed the 1970’s style fire place and replaced it with a contemporary gas slot model, enlarged the hearth so that it could double up as seating and included built in display shelves for the clients collection of books and objéts.  The shelving is to be created in a glossy paint finish with a contrast wall cover backing which will sit against a luxe textured wall paper from Rubelli.  

A wide range of designer furniture items have been chosen to dress the room including drinks cabinet from John Richard, coffee table from Arteriors, occasional tables from Kifu Paris, lamps from Visual Comfort and seating from Larkbury Home.  A beautiful silk and wool rug designed by the pre-eminent glass artist, Dale Chihuly, will pull together the scheme of colourful and textured fabrics on the sofa and windows.  Part of the scope of works for this project will also include helping the client curate a small focused art collection as well as accessories, cutlery, crockery and bed linen.
